GOSA's Campaign on the Appeals Board Matter
Holding the Minister of Police Accountable. A lawful challenge to protect due process, fairness, and the rights of responsible firearm owners.
The Firearms Control Act is clear: a Firearms Appeal Board must be appointed to ensure fair and lawful appeals. Yet despite repeated engagement and a formal Letter of Demand, the Minister of Police has failed to act.
This failure is not administrative oversight, it is a breakdown of accountability.
GOSA has stepped in.
We are initiating legal action to compel the Minister of Police to comply with the law and appoint a functioning Firearms Appeal Board.
What GOSA Is Doing
A Letter of Demand was issued last year, requiring the Minister to comply with the law and appoint Appeal Board members.
That letter received no response.
As a result, summons will now be issued.
This legal action is not political.
It is not ideological.
It is about forcing compliance with the law.
Why This Matters
- Appeals are delayed indefinitely
- Law-abiding firearm owners are denied due process
- Administrative injustice becomes the norm
- Confidence in lawful firearm ownership is undermined
Today it’s the Firearms Appeal Board.
Tomorrow it’s something else.
GOSA believes in:
- The Constitution
- The rule of law
- Accountability without fear or favour
Legal Action Underway
As confirmed by GOSA Chairman Paul Oxley:
“GOSA Law is about to issue summons to the Minister, who has failed to respond to the Letter of Demand we sent him last year requiring him to appoint an Appeals Board as per the law. Keep watching the pinned posts. As soon as we start paying seed money to our lawyer's trust account to kick off the action the game is on.”
The next step is unavoidable: legal summons.
Seed Funding: The First R10,000
Legal action requires funding and GOSA is stepping up. GOSA has committed R10,000 in seed funding to initiate this legal action. This amount has been transferred directly into our attorney’s trust account to formally commence proceedings. In addition, GOSA has pledged to match all donations.
This is the line in the sand.
But meaningful legal action requires sustained support.
